Strasbourg, Nancy, and Metz (France), June 28–29, 2026 — During a working visit to France, Professor Gulnara Mendikulova, Professor at the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU), Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Knight of the Order of Academic Palms, conducted comprehensive research aimed at identifying the fates and burial sites of Kazakhstani soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of France in the Second World War.
During the visit, Professor Mendikulova examined military burial sites in Strasbourg and studied archival materials at the Meurthe-et-Moselle Departmental Archives in Nancy. The archival research made it possible to clarify information on the burial places of servicemen from the Kazakh SSR and identify further directions for historical research. She also met with the archive's management, where both sides expressed their mutual interest in continuing academic cooperation to preserve historical memory.
The research continued at the Chambière Military Necropolis in Metz and the Le Pétant Military Necropolis, in cooperation with the French National Office for Veterans and Victims of War (ONaCVG). The project contributes to preserving the memory of Kazakhstani soldiers and strengthening international cooperation in the field of military-historical research.
