The strategic directions of KBTU for 2013-2018 are as follows:

* Continuous improvement of academic programmes and delivery mechanisms through:
Quality assurance of education via appropriate and timely accreditations
Enhancement and expansion of three-stage Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes
Acceleration of development of the Kazakh Maritime Academy programme offerings and
partner/industry initiatives
Enhanced joint academic and research activity with the A.B. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences and D.V. Sokolskiy Institute of Organic Catalysis amd Electric Chemistry, both now part of the KBTU enterprise
Ongoing initiatives internally and with industry partners to use cutting- edge technology in programme delivery
Continuous search for and adoption of international post-secondary education best practices
Continuous improvement in locating and hiring the best faculty, both local and international
Use of supercomputer and other state-of-the-art technology to enhance programme development and delivery to support learning and teaching
Expansion of faculty fellowships and exchange programmes particularly with top-ranked universities
Global Integration and Internationalization
*Ongoing modernization and streamlining of administrative and management practices based on international principles of quality operations
*Successful accreditation of the School of Economics and Finance of KBTU and other specific academic programmes in recognition of their adherence to international educational standards
* Measured and continuous improvements against metrics used by QS Top Universities 500 world academic ranking; improvement of overall standing year on year, with being in top 500 as a goal
* Continuation and further expansion of international cooperation and development of two-diploma programs with leading universities and world research centers
* Increased profile and visibility of the institution (scholars, programmes, and related initiatives) through an aggressive international public relations plan
* Increased scholar publication in reputable academic and scholarly journals
* Intensified recruitment efforts for international students
Research, Innovation, and Commercialization
*Acceleration of regional and global presence as a research-intensive university through:
* Commercialization of research, where appropriate, through licensing agreements in collaboration with the industrial sector
* Completion and opening of new and innovative KBTU campus with new industrial and academic training centers with simulation equipment until 2015
* Promotion of effective and strategic use of information systems and technology, including more extensive use of supercomputer to extend research activity
Industry Potential and Partnerships
* Completion of Institutes of Information Technology and Oil-Gas Engineering in the free economic zone - “Information Technology Park” - with partner assistance until the end of 2013
* Growth in industry collaborations to continue modernization of KBTU research institutes (A.B. Bekturov and D.V. Sokolskiy)
* Ongoing enhancements in technology and scientific equipment with partner support
*Increase in number of partners as well as partner contributions and support for innovative research
*Expansion of industry partnerships for the KMA programme within the strategic fleet development framework of RK
*Extension of links with industrial enterprises for industrial internships (cooperative programmes) and employment of graduates
ISR is a system of values, behavior, principles, and operational standards that guide how institutions manage their business processes to produce an overall positive impact on their immediate environment and on society at large.
KBTU’s institutional vision is to build a new generation of business, scientific, and technical elite within the framework of its understanding of ISR.
To achieve this, KBTU is committed to the following:
*Development of a strategic and comprehensive plan to build a culture of institutional social responsibility among students, faculty, staff, and administration
*Communication of the plan to KBTU stakeholder groups (students, faculty, staff, industry partners, shareholders)
*Integration of plan initiatives into departmental plans, as appropriate
* KBTU social contribution to the local society, high schools and schools for disable students.
