If you ever visit Almaty and Kazakh-British Technical University, we would like to suggest you some routes around the Southern Capital of Kazakhstan. The routes start from Astana Square located in front of KBTU.
On the map above you can find all 5 lines of our tour (colored lines) as well as the road from the University to the  Halls of residence and roads to the main infrastractural points of Almaty (all in green lines).

 

Line 1 – Kok-tobe

You should take a 99th bus which stops near KBTU and it will take you to the most amazing place in Apple-city – Kok-tobe. At the bottom of the hill you can take a taxi which will cost you 300-500 tenge or walk on foot (in that case you will pay only 100 tenge for eco-post).

You can also get to Kok-tobe by aerial tramway which goes from Republic Palace (the 99th bus will help you here, too). It will cost you 1500 tenge.

So what is a Kok-tobe? It’s a hill on the south-eastern outskirts of Almaty, where you can find the best view to the Apple-city and snowy white tops of Trans-Ili Alatau. There also the 1st opened in CIS monument of The Beatles, Attractions, ZOO and the city television tower “Almaty Tower”.

Line 2 –  Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen

You can get to Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen on foot in 15-20 minutes: just go down Panfilov Street, turn on Gogol Street and walk. The Park will meet you with green trees, doves and military machines of the II World War. This peaceful park one of the last place in city where you can find unique Tien-Shan blue firs.

You also can visit The Ascension Cathedral (The Zenkov Cathedral) – one of the two Cathedral of Astana’s and Almaty’s Russian Orthodox Eparchy. And you will have unique chance to plunge into the traditional music world of Kazakhstan, because in the Park there is a Museum of Traditional Music named after Ikilas. Here more than 1000 subjects of 60 different musical instruments. The building of Museum dated back to 1908.

Line 3 – Cross of Dostyk Avenue and Abay Avenue, Medeo and Shymbulak

You can get to cross of Dostyk and Abay by 99th bus which you have already known from line 1. What you will find here? First of all, you will see a visit card of Almaty – Hotel Kazakhstan. You also can walk around Republic Palace. Or you can go inside houses and find Science Academy of Kazakhstan and beautiful Zodiac Fountain. This part of Almaty is related in Golden Square: business, cultural and historical centre of city. Horror Almaty traffic jams and quiet parks are in harmony.

After you enjoy this heaven part of Almaty you can take taxi or bus #6 and visit Medeo.

Of course, if you come at wintertime, you should take skates which you can find here at bus stop. In addition, at evening even in summer time you should take a coat or something, because you are going to the mountains.

Medeo is a world famous ice arena which is located in mountains of Zailiyskiy Alatau. The bus will take you to eco post and then you can walk on foot to Medeo or take aerial tramway to Chimbulak – the best Kazakhstani ski resort. Both Medeo and Chimbulak will impress your imagination with virgin beauty of nature. Centenarian firs will facilitate your breathing, and you would like to stay in our mountains forever.

Every year Students’ Government and Admission of KBTU invite student to “KBTU on ICE”: whole evening only KBTU students and professors skates on Medeo. Active teambuilding helps to relax after hard-working weeks.
