English I – is an integral course of the English language that includes General English and Remedial Grammar for Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate и Upper-Intermediate levels. The course is focused on establishing and further developing the structure accuracy, vocabulary and language function competence by practicing language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in real-life contexts adjusted to students’ language proficiency level. The course is designed to raise the students’ language competence on the basis of such topics as: Student’s University life, the system of compulsory and higher education of Kazakhstan and in the country of the language studied. …The course is accompanied by intensive study/consolidation of main grammatical categories by means of training and communicative exercises.

This course is aimed at development of students` analytical thinking skills on the basis of understanding, application-oriented microcomputing and analysis of fundamental economic notions and terms: structure of market economies; individual and market demand on goods and services; market advancement of goods and services; mechanism of functioning and adjustment equilibrity at the markets for the goods and the markets of production factors; methods of profit and expenses analysis as a foundation of taking decisions in the context of market economy.

The main objective of the course is the acquaintance of students with the contemporary concepts, the problems and the types of management, which should help them to develop the skills in analysis of business organisations, both in terms of their internal functioning and interaction with the environment. The course provides an overview of the evolution of management, both in the field of theoretical developments, and in practice. It includes classical management theories and contemporary approaches to organisations and business. Special features and differences in the American and Japanese management are presented. The basic modules the of course are the functions and management structures, managerial processes and the interaction between the organisation and external environment. Particular emphasis is placed on controlling and monitoring in the organisation. The course also includes the elements of organisational behavior, corporate culture; the management of changes and development, management of human resources. New trends in management, in particular - management of knowledge are considered. To illustrate the application of theoretical concepts in practical business case studies are used as pertaining to both domestic and foreign practice.

The course "Taxes and taxation" introduces with the theoretical basis of taxes and taxation and the mechanism of the functioning of the taxes and other obligatory payments in the Republic of Kazakhstan is also taught.
Within the framework of the course the following directions of the curriculum are used: theoretical aspects of the functioning and the development of taxes; the stages of formation and the development of tax system of the Republic of Kazakhstan; differentiation of taxes and duties between the levels of budgetary system; especially the functioning of the major groups of taxes in the tax system in Kazakhstan. The mechanism of calculation and payment, especially the use of special tax regimes for certain categories of taxpayers, calculation, duties and other obligatory payments, operating in Kazakhstan.

This course also introduces the differences between management and other basic calculations - accounting and financial. After completing the course you will be able: to become a visionary expert in your approach to the management and evaluation of information related to the process of financial accounting. The course helps to establish the changes in the calculation of expenditures and profits, caused by changes in production levels of the enterprise, be actively involved in the process of planning the activities of the company, to assess effectively the performance of some subdivisions on a scale of enterprise, with greater efficiency to make an objective decision in situations where the activities of some subdivisions do not coincide with the objectives of the enterprise.

This course is designed to introduce the students to the basic ideas and methods of mathematical analysis and their application to mathematical modeling. This course helps lay the foundation for the entire block of quantitative disciplines, and it also provides some of the analytical tools that are required by advanced courses in economics. This course provides students with experience in the methods and applications of calculus to a wide range of theoretical and practical situations.
This course is a two-semester course and prepares the students for the Advanced Placement Test.
By the end of this course the students should:
  • be able to analyse functions represented in a variety of ways: graphical, numerical, analytical, or verbal, and understand the relationships between these various representations.
  • understand the meaning of the derivative in terms of a rate of change and local linear approximation, and be able to use derivatives to solve a variety of problems.
  • understand the meaning of the definite integral both as a limit of Riemann sums and as the net accumulation of change, and be able to use integrals to solve a variety of problems.
  • understand the relationship between the derivative and the definite integral, as expressed by the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
  • be able to communicate mathematics in well-written sentences and to explain the solutions to problems.

The course provides students with the knowledge of an enterprise as an object of management; with economic and social efficiency of production. During the term there are considered fixed and circulating capital, commodity, material and human resources, compensation, costs of production and sales, investment and innovation policy of a company. Particular attention is paid to marketing and production activities of enterprises, to ensuring the competitiveness of products. A detailed overview of the economic strategies of enterprises is provided. During classes students are given tasks on calculating profits and profitability, capacity of enterprises and production efficiency.

The purpose of this course is focused on the theoretical knowledge of financial management, as well as mastering the basic techniques and criteria for determining the efficient dividend, financial and investment decisions. This discipline is dedicated to the methods and concepts of financial management, including dividend policy, investment policy, and risk management, cost and capital structure, methods of financing of current capital, corporate restructuring.
The purpose of Financial management is to enable to understand the financial decision-making process and to interpret the impact that financial decisions will have on value creation. The course introduces to the three major decision-making areas in financial management: the investment, financing, and asset management decisions. The course covers the major topics of working capital policy, capital budgeting, financing with debt and equity, and valuation.

The main objective of the course consists of providing substantial acquirement by students of basic education on the processes of receiving, data conversion, information storage and opinion formation on opportunity to analyze different questions, arising in a real activity on the basis of its description by formal and sign means. Mentioned objective can be achieved by practical mastery of technology statement and decision contents of algorythmic problems and acquisition of programming skills in C. Programming is considered as the main method of practical algorithm presentation.

The purpose of discipline - to prepare students to solve practical problems improvement in corporate finance. Students need to know: research of contemporary forms of associative unions of legal bodies, their basic characteristics and economic conditions of association of their finance (financial resources), the mastery of basic financial and economic categories, their characteristics and calculations, the basic elements of production (operating) power, influence scale production on the size and structure of the consolidated gross revenue corporation, to calculate the cost efficiency of financial and economic activities of the corporation, the characteristics of commercial, monetary and economic efficiency analysis and calculation of the profitability of corporate securities, the classification of securities portfolios and the minimization of risks, connected with financial investment corporation.

Intellectual history of Central Asia (including the History of Kazakhstan)
The course is aimed at historical studies of intellectual life of Central Asia and Kazakhstan from the earliest times up to our days. It can be done by the history dividing into several main periods taking into account primary factors that influence the character of intellectual life.
Discussion of ancient periods of regional intellectual life had begun since the period when Zoroastrian religion was predominant in the wide territory of Eurasia. Zoroastrian ideas are described in the Sacred Book “Zend-Avesta” about the influence of intellectual life on ancient societies of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, such as the Saks, the Scythians, the Ussuns and their polities. This ancient period of intellectual life was succeeded by the period “Knowledge retrieval”, in the framework of which the pre-Islamic period of Central Asia and Kazakhstan can be analysed. Knowledge eclecticism is defined by the intellectual life of nationalities and their religious beliefs during that period: Zoroastrianism was not a predominate religion and the other religions were widespread and accepted by local communities.
Turkic empire and the first Turkic speaking states represented this period and the intellectual life of this period was described in the Turkic runic inscriptions and the Uigur manuscripts.
Different branches of the intellectual life of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, such as philosophy, art, literature, etc., were developed during the major Muslim period.
The last period of the intellectual life could be characterized as a period of modern age and development of industrial society and spreading contemporary progress and enlightenment ideas.
The most important periods of intellectual life development of Central Asia and Kazakhstan can be analysed on the basis of definite pieces of work which give concepts of spiritual life during different periods. Analysis and discussion of texts will be the most important method of teaching. Therefore, it will reflect contemporary research devoted to Central Asia in the field of cultural anthropology, political philosophy and history.

Banking is a theoretical course with practical aspects of organizing an effective system of banking management. It is designed for students specializing in "Finance", for their future work in the bank business. The course covers the general principles of commercial bank management. The discipline is focused on actual issues of financial management - management of the bank capital, its resources, integrated management of assets and liabilities. For studying this course it’s important to know the analysis of bank financial accounts, as well as analysis and evaluation of banking transactions in terms of liquidity, profitability and risk.

The Kazakh language
This course is suggested for students of the Russian Department according to three levels: elementary, intermediate and advanced. The course is aimed at developing basic skills of the Kazakh language necessary for communication at an elementary level; students should develop linguistic and communicative competences in the framework of the basic speech branches (social, social and political, cultural and educational) at an intermediate level. Students can master different genres of belles-lettres, scientific and publicistic styles and develop their skills on précis-writing, summary-writing, and reviewing. Teaching is based on pragmatic, interactive and communicative approaches necessary for mastering the language using contemporary technical equipment and methods of teaching.
The Russian language
This course is suggested for students of the Kazakh Department according to two levels: intermediate and advanced. The course is aimed at developing linguistic and communicative competences in the framework of the basic speech branches (social, social and political, cultural and educational) at an intermediate level and mastering different genres of scientific style at an advanced level. Students should develop their skills on précis-writing, scientific article writing, summary-writing, reviewing and on work with academic literature; improve speaking; and master skills on data retrieval of different topics (for example, Internet and etc.) in the framework of this course. A special attention is paid to elaboration and presentation of different types of information. Teaching is based on pragmatic, interactive and communicative approaches necessary for mastering the language using contemporary technical equipment and methods of teaching.

The course is offered to students of Intermediate level. It is designed to raise the students’ language competence to the required international standards of academics and future professional needs. The course requires regular guided practice for all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) under the teacher’s supervision. The course concentrates on teaching written and spoken expression that is precise and demonstrates higher level thinking skills. Academic English has its own vocabulary and special characteristics that distinguish it from General or Professional English.

Business English (level В2), 3 credits

The course is offered to students of Upper-Intermediate level. It is designed to raise the students’ language competence to required standards of academics and future professional needs in the business world. The course is focused on developing analytical reading skills, dealing with business correspondence, speaking and listening integrated with Business English content. The students will also work as a team on a semester business project.

English for Specific Purposes (level В2), 3 credits

The course is designed for students of Upper-Intermediate level. It is designed to raise the students’ language competence in their respective fields of study: Economics and Finance, Oil and Gas Engineering and Information Technology. The course is focused on developing advanced reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and provides opportunities for building up professional vocabulary and Upper-Intermediate level grammar. Types of academic, business and technical discourse will be studied to show students how to use diverse resources. Students will learn a variety of patterns for communicating in professional settings and develop appropriate communication behavior skills. The semester project will include writing a research paper on a professional topic.
