The Scientific Library of JSC “KBTU” – is one of a modern university libraries of Kazakhstan, member of the Information Consortium of Libraries of Kazakhstan, Association of High School Libraries RK.

Scientific library of KBTU is organized in 2002 as structural division of the Kazakh - British Technical University.

The library is located on the I floor of the unique building which are monument of history and architecture of Almaty.

The basic sponsors are the British Council and the company «British Petroleum».

From the date of the basis, Scientific Library of KBTU actively participates in formation of the organizational, cultural and intellectual environment in the High School, carries out information service of users, introduction of automation and new technologies, access to electronic resources.

The Scientific Library of KBTU completes the literature on 3 languages on the University profile.

Funds KBTU include the domestic and foreign literature on natural and to the exact sciences, and also on theoretical problems of engineering science. Editions on petroleum and gas are most full presented, to chemistry and chemical technology, computer science and programming.

The annual subscription to periodicals makes over 204 titles of newspapers and magazines.

A special place in the fund of periodicals on oil and the gas, provided by the companies «Poligon International», "Haliburton", with magazine "Petroleum" edition, the main dispatching management of the oil and gas industry.

Users of SL of KBTU are students, masters of a degree, doctoral candidates,  teachers and employees of University.

The Structure of Library consists of Reading room, Hall of periodicals, the Subscription, the Sector of acquisitions and scientific processing of Literature,2 computer halls of the Center of Electronic Resources, Reading room of the House of Students.

In the Library the automated informational library system is used МАRК –SQL (АILS МАRК-SQL). On the basis of АILS MARK - SQL operates the Electronic catalogue.

On the site of KBTU an access is opened to all readers in the network the Intranet:

-          to 10 full-text databases of company EBSCO within the limits of the

     Informational Consortium of libraries of Kazakhstan;

-          to publishing house of Elsevier database on the platform of Science Direct;

-          to electronic library «Oil and gas» the Ufa State oil university;

-          to legal database of RК - "Lawyer";

-          to electronic textbooks on oil and gas on CD-ROM;

-          To full-text training courses and materials etc.

-         To reference information РУБРИКОН.

The Library - bibliographic work of SL of KBTU is presented in the form of constantly active book exhibitions.

For the purpose of the fullest satisfaction of queries of users, the structure of library is

constantly improved, the system of reading rooms, the subscription changes.

The library constantly searches for new forms and work directions, being guided by fund formation on electronic resources.
